Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia is currently seeking a full-time Histology Technician.
Job Summary: Works under the supervision of the Histology Supervisor and Pathology Manager. This position performs procedures in the Histology department according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. The Histotech is required to follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines established in the department to include accurate performance, review and documentation. The Histotech is responsible for the preservation of tissue samples in the proper preservative/fixative. The Histotech also is responsible for the embedding, cutting and staining of tissue per specialized techniques. The Histotech is involved in the routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. In some cases the Histotech will be involved in the grossing/dissection and dictation of gross descriptions of surgical and/or autopsy specimens. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), DNV, State, OSHA, CLIA, etc. The Histotech assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The Histotech adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; maintains a professional demeanor and exhibits a positive attitude. May perform other duties as assigned.

This acute care facility provides a regional cancer care center, the Peninsula regions only comprehensive stroke center, the areas only open-heart surgery program, the regions only Level II Trauma Center, and a cornerstone neurosciences program that includes the Chesapeake, Riverside and University of Virginia Radiosurgery Center.
Education: Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience is preferred. Ability-operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards. Working knowledge of Computers.
Certification: HT(ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
