Riverside Regional Medical Center is currently seeking a full-time Cytotechnologist.
Hours: 7am-3:30pm Monday-Friday
Job Summary: Works under the supervision of the Cytology Supervisor. This position performs the following primary duties in addition to other related cytology department functions: performs microscopic evaluation including laboratory information system (LIS) resulting and reporting of prepared cytologic specimens from patients of all ages perform or support rapid on-site evaluation adequacy procedures and perform as a Flow Cytometry technician. The cytotechnologist will have a working knowledge support and on occasion perform all aspects of cytology specimen workflows. Additional supporting responsibilities include telephone/fax communication slide filing reagent manufacture routine equipment maintenance/calibration inventory quality control quality assurance and assist with the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The cytotechnologist will follow established standards and practices set-forth in related safety operation and procedure manuals for all associated federal state and regulatory guidelines including but not limited to College of American Pathologist (CAP) DNV Virginia Department of Health (VDH) OSHA and CLIA. The cytotechnologist will maintain certification and stay current on all related and assigned competencies and computer-based learning (CBL) modules. Overall the cytotechnologist will promote an attitude of positive teamwork effective communication and rapport while conforming to the Riverside Health System (RHS) mission vision and values. May perform other duties as assigned.
Riverside began serving the Virginia Peninsula community in 1916. In 1963, Riverside moved to the present 72-acre location in Newport News on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. A 450-bed facility, Riverside Regional Medical Center is the Virginia Peninsulas most comprehensive medical facility combining the most recent computerized medical technology with a healing environment. The Pavilion is a 250,000 sq. ft., $107 million, 3-story addition to Riverside Regional Medical Center, which opened in 2013. This acute care facility provides a regional cancer care center, the Peninsula regions only comprehensive stroke center, the areas only open-heart surgery program, the regions only Level II Trauma Center, and a cornerstone neurosciences program that includes the Chesapeake, Riverside and University of Virginia Radiosurgery Center.
Education: Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience is preferred. Ability-operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards. Working knowledge of Computers
Certification: CT (ASCP) certified or eligible required.
