Overview

This position works under the supervision of the Office Manager Physicians and/or Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor. The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) greets the patient and reviews the complaint. Performs and records pertinent clinical measures to include visual acuities slit lamp exam and any other necessary diagnostic test. The COA facilitates patient education through brochures and videos. The COA prepares prescription refills for the physician to review and sign. The COA is also responsible for preparing referral and dictation letters returning calls to patients and pharmacies with medical questions.

The area is very unique with a large number of military bases and several large colleges and universities as well as other large healthcare systems. Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Graduate or GED Equivalent

EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years in an Ophthalmology/Optometry Office

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: JCAHPO, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 18 months of employment
