Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia is currently seeking a part-time Medical Lab Tech (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT/MLS.)
Hours: Part-time, 10pm-630am and every other weekend.
The MT or MLT works under the direction of the supervisor/manager in the area of responsibility and/or Director of the Laboratory. Performs technical procedures in such areas as Hematology Chemistry Serology Blood Bank Point of Care Testing Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established Protocols and standard operating procedures. The MT or MLT is required to follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines established in the department to include accurate performance review and documentation. Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP) DNV State OSHA AABB CLIA etc. The MT or MLT assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The MLT adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; maintains a professional demeanor and exhibits a positive attitude. May perform specimen collection specimen processing and phlebotomy as applicable. May perform other duties as assigned.
Riverside began serving the Virginia Peninsula community in 1916. In 1963, Riverside moved to the present 72-acre location in Newport News on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. A 450-bed facility, Riverside Regional Medical Center is the Virginia Peninsulas most comprehensive medical facility combining the most recent computerized medical technology with a healing environment. The Pavilion is a 250,000 sq. ft., $107 million, 3-story addition to Riverside Regional Medical Center, which opened in 2013. This acute care facility provides a regional cancer care center, the Peninsula regions only comprehensive stroke center, the areas only open-heart surgery program, the regions only Level II Trauma Center, and a cornerstone neurosciences program that includes the Chesapeake, Riverside and University of Virginia Radiosurgery Center.
Education: Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Clinical Lab Science or equivalent degree in health science. Alternative must meet eligibility requirements for ASCP.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in clinical laboratory preferred. Ability-operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards. Working knowledge of computers.
Certification: ASCP or AMT registered MT/MLS/MLT or eligible or equivalent.
