Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia is currently seeking a labor pool (as needed) Medical Technologist for the Microbiology department in the lab.    Job Summary: The Medical Technologist (MT) works under the direction of the supervisor/manager in the area of responsibility and/or Director of the Laboratory. Performs technical procedures in such areas as Hematology Chemistry Serology Blood Bank Point of Care Testing Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established Protocols and standard operating procedures. The Medical Technologist is required to follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines established in the department to include accurate performance review and documentation. Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP) DNV State OSHA AABB CLIA etc. The medical technologist assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The Medical Technologist performs the responsibilities of lead technologist in the absence of an on site supervisor when designated as such. The medical technologist adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; maintains a professional demeanor and exhibits a positive attitude. May perform specimen collection specimen processing and phlebotomy as applicable. May perform other duties as assigned. Riverside began serving the Virginia Peninsula community in 1916. A 450-bed facility, Riverside Regional Medical Center is the Virginia Peninsulas most comprehensive medical facility combining the most recent computerized medical technology with a healing environment. This acute care facility provides a regional cancer care center, the Peninsula regions only comprehensive stroke center, the areas only open-heart surgery program, the regions only Level II Trauma Center, and a cornerstone neurosciences program that includes the Chesapeake, Riverside and University of Virginia Radiosurgery Center.
